Belarus becomes a member of IMO

The Republic of Belarus officially became a member of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

On November 29 was held the ceremony of delivery of documents on acceptance by the government the Convention on International Maritime Organization. The action has taken place in IMO headquarters in London.

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) with its head office in London is a specialized institution of the United Nations (UN). The main task of IMO is safety and reliability of navigation, and also prevention of marine pollution from ships.

At the moment the number of IMO member states has reached 172. There are also 3 more associated member states.

Ukraine became a member of IMO in 1994.
