Maersk Shipping Company is ready to send the container ship Maersk Honam (15,282 TEU) back on active duty after a massive fire. Seventeen months ago, the vessel caught fire, as a result five crew members lost their lives.
According to Alphaliner, the ship has been renamed Maersk Halifax. Ship’s bow, totally damaged was cut off at a yard in Dubai. The rest of the hull was moved by a semi-submersible ship to Ulsan in South Korea. Since Hyundai Heavy Industries yard has been fixing it.
Now Maersk Halifax features a reshaped, less flared bow and a SOx scrubber. As is reported, on August 5 the redux vessel is scheduled to join the Asia – Mediterranean AE11/Jade’ service with MSC.
