“IMO doesn’t have any claims against Ukraine”, – The Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Vladyslav Krykliy

The Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Vladyslav Krykliy and IMO Assistant Secretary-General Lawrence Barchue

A meeting of the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Vladyslav Krykliy and IMO Assistant Secretary-General Lawrence Barchue took place on February 18, in Quatar.

Vladyslav Krykliy said, “Currently Ukrainian experts are working side by side with the experts of IMO Secretariat aimed to eliminate all inconsistencies, found out by IMO experts while analyzing a report on meeting the requirements of the Rule I/8 of the International Convention on standards for training, certification and watchstanding 1978 (STCW Convention with amendments). Ukraine intends to fulfill its liabilities in the sphere of training and certification of seafarers in full”.

He also added that the latest data on elimination of remarks of IMO experts, found out while analyzing a report of Ukraine, were submitted to IMO Secretariat on February 10, 2020. Barchue says that IMO doesn’t have any claims against Ukraine, and there is no necessity in additional reports.

We shall note that the Minister thanked experts of IMO Secretariat for provided assistance in improvement of training and certification system of seafarers.

She shall also remind that last week an Association “Maritime Chamber of Ukraine” asked to hold a meeting concerning repeated remarks, made by IMO experts as to a report on meeting the requirements of the Rule I/8 of STCW Convention by Ukraine.

In its turn, it could have led to a fact that at the meeting of IMO Safety Committee – Ukraine could have been expelled from the countries on a “white paper”.
