The container ship Marina (shipowner – German shipping company Klingenberg) saved 79 migrants near Malta on May 4. The crew includes Ukrainian seafarers.

Together with the Malta Coast Guard the MV Marina carried out a rescue operation. Nowadays all rescued people are aboard the container ship.

However, the authorities of Malta and Italy do not allow the vessel to call at their ports. In relation to such decision, the MV Marina is still currently some 200 kilometers south off the Italian island of Lampedusa. The crew is waiting when all rescued passengers can transfer onto another ship or go ashore.

“Unless a solution is found soon, people on board will die,” Thies Klingenberg, owner of Klingenberg, told German news agency dpa on May, 6.

As Fleetmon reported, food and water supplies are running out, and situation aboard is worsening day after day.
